5/29 Friday Favorites

Almost forgot about this today!

Sam's Club...what can I say? I'm somehow fascinated with the ability to purchase items in bulk. We went yesterday. Chris now has a month's supply of Copenhagen (yuck, I know), and we have enough air freshener refills and window cleaner to last until the second coming. Why? Because we can.

Mexican Cheese. Our first trip to Barcena's Restaurant yesterday reminded me of how wonderful it is. It's so perfectly melty and stringy and pure deliciousness. Heck, cheese in general is ALWAYS a favorite!

And, lastly, my ATG - adhesive transfer gun. (Thanks, Mom!) Yes, it's ugly. Yes, it's huge. BUT it's super-economical in the long run and one roll of the adhesive can get me through almost an entire scrapbook. Tiffany - have you purchased yours yet? One day, I'm planning to beautify it...

Lots of creativity...but bad photography

So I guess I had my camera on the wrong setting and now I'm just too lazy to go back and take pictures again. I guess you'll get over it, huh? ;) Anyway, I had a great time scrapping with Tiffany and Stephanie on Saturday. I got six cards (forgot to take pics of those, though) and 4 scrapbook pages done. When I got back to Mom's I completed a few more pages and I've even done a few here at home plus some invitations for Cole's upcoming birthday!!! I'm also including the aforementioned memory box I made for my friend Sharon's baby girl-to-be.

5/23 Friday Favorites

This new bag in Kelci's Etsy Shop
hmmm....or maybe this one:

The new Quickutz font (okay un-scrapping folk - I can cut these out from paper, etc.) I got for Mother's Day:

and, finally, my last favorite of the week is the recipe my mother-in-law finally shared with me....she's now calling them "MeeMaw Burritos" even though she wasn't "MeeMaw" when she made them during Chris' entire childhood and I don't think they are technically burritos. Whatever. They are stinkin' GOOD!!! If you are into extremely spicy food, here's the recipe. But be warned - they will seriously clean your sinuses.

MeeMaw's Burritos

2 round steaks - cubed
4 poblano peppers
5 jalepeno peppers - diced
8-10 Roma tomatoes - diced

Roast poblano peppers under broiler until charred. After cooling, peel, seed and dice them. Set aside.

Brown cubed round steak in 1 T. oil. Add poblanos, jalepenos and tomatoes. Cover and simmer until tomatoes have reduced. If you want a thicker sauce, stir in about 3 T. flour and allow to cook about 5 mintues more. Do NOT be tempted to season this AT ALL. Not even salt!

Serve with flour tortillas, cheese and sour cream. Keep your tissues near by - your nose will thank you.

Playing "Tag"

ARGH! I got tagged by Shanna I feel like I've done this before.

So here's the rules as to what I had to do and if you are one of my lucky 7 below then what you are suppose to do.

1. Link your tagger and list these rules on your blog.
2. Share 7 facts about yourself on your blog, some random, some weird.
3. Tag 7 people at the end of your post by leaving their names as well as links to their blogs.
4. Let them know they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.

Really??? Okay, I'll play...

Kristi's 7 Facts:

1 - I dream of having a spotless, organized house but LOATHE any form of housework.

2 - I really enjoy scrapbooking, but since I can't seem to do my pages chronologically, I only have a few completed albums of my own - my wedding (my first attempt at scrapping), Astros Opening Day 2006 and the mini-albums I posted recently from Savannah. Yes, Caleb is now 5 1/2 and I'm still working on his baby book. Sad.

3 - My living room walls are bare (since we recently repainted it) and it's driving me nuts. I got rid of my old decor and haven't decided what to do yet.

4 - I really want to get veneers on at least my front teeth. Unfortunately, I need to have my jaws fixed first so I can quit grinding. I feel like all of that money my parents spent on orthodontic work has gone to waste.

5 - My headaches seem to have returned to full-force. UGH.

6 - I could eat Mexican food every day. Seriously.

7 - Chris and I have an insane amount of things in common. Besides the whole name thing ("Aww...Chris and Kristi. That's so neat!" - "Yeah, we planned it that way."), we were born the same year - both on the 31st. Me in March and Chris in August (that was also my PaPaw Giggs' birthday)...yes, I'm older. My maiden name also started with a G. Our "Nanny's" both had similar names - Elsie and Delsie. My dad worked at the same prison as his parents at some point. I could go on, but that will bore you.

Okay, since my little "circle" of blogger buddies have all been tagged previously, I'm going to be the party pooper - I won't subject Jan to doing this, too. LOL

So Excited!!!

I'm so very excited because I'm going to my very first scrapbooking "crop" this Saturday! My friend, Tiffany, is hosting it back home in Shepherd and the boys have a fun-filled day planned at "Camp Nana". I'm very much looking forward to spending the day with other scrappers and playing with my goodies uninterrupted. I've been working on packing up my stuff and making page kits all week. Hopefully it will bring back some of the creativity that I have been lacking lately. The only thing that I have worked on is a gift (I'll show you next week) for my friend Sharon's baby shower this Sunday. All I'll say is that she's having a little girl and I'm having a blast playing with PINK stuff!!!

Well THAT feels better!

Whew...today is a good day! Here's why:

~ Had a garage sale yesterday (thanks to my mom's help!)...made a few bucks
~ Donated the majority of the left-overs to Goodwill and Children's Safe Harbor
~ Finally found a rug set I like and ordered it for my newly-brown living room
~ Went to sleep easily (even though Chris was at work) and Cole stayed in his bed all night
~ Made some delicious French Toast for breakfast - with home-made praline walnut sauce and fresh straw/blackberries
~ Sent the kids outside to play in the sunshine
~ Made some fresh salsa
~ Baseball game just came on and I'm about to wake Chris up since he's off for the next four days!!!

Have a happy day!!!

Friday Favorites

My friend, Kelci, started a new weekly post on her blog called "Friday Favorites" and challenged her readers to do the same. Well, I'm not as cool as Kelci (aka Crafty Mama) with all of her delicious bags and such, but I'll give it a whirl...

So, here are my favorite things right now:

These cutsie-wootsie cupcakes from Once Upon a Cupcake - the blog that I'm stalking now. Let's just say I'm a little cupcake obsessed right now. Nope, I've never had them and probably never will since they are in CA, but a girl can look, right?

Lance Berkman. Fat Elvis. The Big Puma. How can he NOT be your favorite Astro right now? (See...I was nice and didn't put the picture of ME with Lance on here - didn't want to make Nancy jealous. LOL)

Choxie chocolate from Target. This is the closest picture I could find, but my favorite flavor is really the Dark Chocolate Raspberry Lemon Biscotti Truffle Bar. Say that three times fast. Muy delicioso.

Happy Birthday, Old Man!

So the picture is blurry because I had my camera on the wrong setting and now I can't get the boys to cooperate with me again. Oh well.

Anyway, Happy Birthday to my Daddy today (and a belated happy birthday to my step-mom, Sandy)! Just remember, you're only as old as you feel.

My Mother's Day...

We spent the weekend at my father-in-laws house. Okay, so not what I really wanted to do, but I spent it with my boys and that's all that matters. They boys really enjoyed fishing and splashing around in the water afterwards.

Oh My...part 2

So you know how I went to see "Made of Honor" last weekend? I'm not ashamed to admit that this is the reason why (Patrick Dempsey...not his wife):

Although, had you asked me if he was a celebrity crush of mine back in the late 80's,

Yeah, not so much. Even though Sarah and I DID watch "Can't Buy Me Love" over and over and over again. Some men just get better looking with time...can I hear an "Amen" sisters???

Oh My....

So, I'm surfing the internet for some ideas for Cole's upcoming SECOND birthday (I KNOW! Can you believe it???) I think I have a new love...err, I mean a blog to love. Once Upon a Cupcake (click on the name)
Deliciousness. Enjoy.

Out of the mouths of babes...

It seems like kids always come up with the wittiest remarks. Take today for example. You must note that I've just been in a kinda "blah" mood all week - just letting everything pile up on me and being in a less-than-great mood. (Thanks, Mom, for the card...it helped brighten my day some.) Anyway. Y'all know that Caleb is a talker. Today, he was in an extremely chatty mood and I was just tired of listening to it. Here's how it went down:

Me: Caleb, do you think you can be quiet for a little while?

Caleb: Oh....I don't knoooooow. That's going to be kinda tough.

Reminder - if you ask a five-year-old a question, you may not like the answer.

Catching up

We've had a busy past few days around here!

On Friday, I got to go out with my girls (Nancy, Sharon, Sabrina and Teresa) to eat dinner and watch a movie. The boys stayed at home and the guys in our "group" all gathered at our house for ka-bobs and basketball. It was all great fun! We went to see "Made of Honor" - very cute movie. Go see it with your "girls"!

Saturday was Caleb's last t-ball game. He had is a rather large fan club there....Mom, Daddy, Cole, MeeMaw, Roger, Nana and Aunt Sarah. They were all anxious to see Caleb's sliding skills. Of course, he didn't do it one single time. Figures. He did it every inning all season until Saturday. After the game, the league did a little trophy ceremony for them. It was very cute and Coach Mike had something special to say to each one of them as they got their trophies. Can't believe it is already over! Caleb is already asking me when swimming and golf lessons start! Here are a few pics from the day:

After we obtained a snow-cone for each boy, I strapped them in their seats, threw some money at their dad and ran quickly to my mom's car. Since Sarah was down for the weekend, we decided to celebrate Mother's Day a little early. We had massages (which was a new experience for Mom), ate lunch and enjoyed watching the chefs at Pei Wei, did a little "just because" shopping and then had dessert(s) at La Madeleine. Good times.

On Sunday, we had family field trip day with Stefan, Nancy and the girls to the Houston Zoo. It was a great day and I was so excited to see the baby elephant! The kids all did exceptionally well - we were there for over four hours! Needless to say, we were all pretty exhausted and/or asleep by the time we got home!

Finally, we celebrated Cinco de Mayo with fajitas and margaritas at Casa de Rodriguez (aka Stefan and Nancy's) last night. Fun! We love our friends!!!
